N. Beth Dorsey is a director in the firm and a nurse attorney. Her focus is medical malpractice defense of health care
providers. She represents hospitals, nurses, physicians, dentists and other health care providers. Ms. Dorsey handles all
aspects of litigation, including selection of experts, discovery, depositions, motions, trials, settlement negotiation,
and mediations. She is admitted to practice in Virginia, District of Columbia and Georgia.
Before attending law school, Ms. Dorsey practiced nursing for nine years. The majority of that time she was a
cardio-vascular nurse at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. At Emory, she provided nursing care for
patients undergoing coronary artery by-pass surgery, cardiac transplant, and other heart surgery. She also was a
member of a team performing cardiac catheterization, balloon angioplasty, electrophysiology studies, and emergency
cardiac procedures.
Ms. Dorsey has litigated the following types of cases: acid and chemical burns, ACL knee surgery, myocardial
infarction, allegations of failure to diagnose and treat cancer, diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis, allegations of
drug or alcohol abuse by health care providers, allegations of failure to monitor anticoagulation therapy, allegations
of vertebral artery dissection and stroke following chiropractic cervical adjustment, alleged lack of consent for
procedure or unauthorized surgery, amputations after orthopedic surgery, anesthesia complications, atrial fibrillation
and cardioversion, blindness following back surgery, blood bank error and ABO transfusion reaction, breast biopsy,
cerebral hemorrhage, cosmetic and plastic surgery, compartment syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias, CABG and other heart
surgery, chiropractic cases, cholecystectomy, complications of procedures including AICDs and pacemakers, decubitus
ulcers, dental and endodontist cases, endoscopic sinus surgery, emergency room cases, EMS and paramedic provider
cases, falls or other injuries in health care facilities, “Gatekeeper” cases involving denial of authorization for
care, gastric bypass surgery, IV therapy complications, Gentamicin toxicity, gynecology surgery, laser burns, medication
complications and allergy cases, meningococcemia and meningitis, negligent retention, orthopedic injuries, osteomyelitis,
Oxycodone cases, paralysis following cervical fracture, injury, or back surgery, product liability cases, psychiatric
cases, retained foreign objects such as surgical sponge or instrument, RSD, sepsis, sleep apnea, steroid myopathy, stroke,
surgery on the wrong extremity, thrombocytopenia, wandering cases, and numerous other type cases.
Ms. Dorsey is a speaker at continuing education seminars for lawyers, paralegals, and health care providers. She has
lectured and written on the issues of conflicts of interest, analyzing medical records, use of demonstrative evidence,
patient rights, and venue and trial practice.
