Jim Daniel is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Arts in economics and
psychology. Mr. Daniel also received his law degree from T.C. Williams School of Law and his MBA from the Richard S.
Reynolds Graduate School, both of the University of Richmond. Mr. Daniel is admitted to practice by the Virginia,
Maryland and West Virginia State Bars. Mr. Daniel is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Governors of the Virginia
State Bar Health Law Section and has been named Virginia Business Magazine’s "Legal Elite" in the area of Health Law.
Mr. Daniel’s practice is comprised of advising proprietary and non-profit institutional health care providers,
physicians and physician organizations. The primary focus of Mr. Daniel’s practice is providing advice on issues
related to tax-exempt status, including private inurement, private benefit and intermediate sanctions, tax-exempt
financing, fraud and abuse, Stark II, false claims and corporate compliance programs. Mr. Daniel frequently represents
hospitals, nursing homes and physicians in sales and acquisitions, including physician practice acquisitions and
consolidations, formation of outpatient facilities and medical office buildings, joint ventures and drafting and
negotiating contracts for hospital based physician group practices, medical directors, recruitment and individual
physician employment.
