Benefits
The following are snapshots of some of the benefits we provide:
Health
Employees may choose to enroll in one of three different Anthem Health Insurance Plans. Employees become eligible for
health insurance the first day of the month following their date of hire. The employee premium is completely paid for by
the firm. Included in the Anthem health coverage is prescription care and vision coverage.
Dental
The firm offers dental coverage to employees through CIGNA Dental. Employees may choose to enroll from two plans.
Coverage begins on the first day of the month following their date of hire.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Employees have the option of enrolling in a Medical Flexible Spending Account and/or a Dependent Care Spending Account. These accounts allow employees to defer income, pre-tax, for reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental and dependent care expenses. Employees are eligible to enroll the first of the month after their date of hire.
Short Term Disability
Short Term Disability is provided to employees who are unable to work due to injury or illness. Employees are eligible if they are out of work for 14 consecutive days and are covered at 70% of their weekly earnings up to a maximum.
Maternity Leave
HDJN will grant eligible employees up to eight weeks of paid maternity leave.
Life and AD&D
Life insurance and AD&D coverage is provided to employees at no cost. Coverage is for double the value of the employee’s annual salary, up to $100,000. Employees have the option to elect supplemental life insurance for themselves, as well as their dependents, at a minimal cost.
Retirement Plan
HDJN provides a Retirement Plan which is comprised of a 401k option including a Roth 401k feature and a profit sharing
option, through The Principal. Employees are able to join the plan after completing three months of service, enrolling at the first of the following quarter. Employees may contribute pre-tax income up to the IRS limit. The firm will make a 3% contribution for each employee actively enrolled in the plan at the end of the plan year. This contribution will be 100% vested immediately. Employees are also eligible for discretionary profit sharing.
Work Hours and Lifestyle Flexibility
Regular work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with an hour for lunch. Employees, with the prior approval of their supervisors, may arrange alternative work hours.
HDJN recognizes that most people juggle delicate life balances. To this end, the firm may agree to part time schedules for employees.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
Employees earn paid time off (PTO) in accordance with their length of service. PTO combines vacation, personal, and sick
leave. Leave is earned as follows:

Year 7+:

The firm provides other types of leave including Jury Duty and Military Leave.
Holidays
HDJN observes the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
Professional Memberships and Continuing Education
Bar association dues and memberships to professional associations for employees are paid by the firm. The firm will also pay for approved attorney CLE and seminar expenses.
529 College Savings Plans
The firm provides employees with the opportunity to save for higher education through CollegeAmerica, a Virginia 529 College Savings Plan.
Professional Liability Insurance
HDJN provides Professional Liability Insurance for attorneys at no cost.
Business Casual Dress
Employees enjoy a business casual work environment, including jeans on Fridays!
Employee Assistance Program
The firm offers an Employee Assistance Program through REACH EAP. This program is designed to assist you and your family with personal issues before they result in deterioration of health, family life or job performance. Counseling services are free and completely confidential.
Parking
The firm provides parking at all office locations at no cost to employees.
