Jerry Canaan is a director with the firm. His emphasis is medical and dental malpractice defense and legislative lobbying in the Virginia General Assembly. He regularly defends dentists, hospitals, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. He also represents individual healthcare practitioners with licensing disputes before the Board of Medicine, Board of Nursing, Board of Pharmacy, Board of Dentistry and Board of Optometry, and he monitors important regulatory developments in these areas. As a member of the Government Relations Team, Mr. Canaan regularly appears before the Virginia General Assembly, the Department of Health Professions, the Health Regulatory Boards and other political organizations.
Mr. Canaan has litigated various types of medical and dental malpractice cases including: birth injuries, pulmonary embolism, angioedema, lung cancer, medication administration errors, tricyclic overdoses, myocardial infarction, avascular necrosis, patient suicide, gastric bypass, emergency medicine, pharmaceutical errors, colorectal cancer, colonoscopies, stroke, fractures, shoulder surgery, operating room fires, medical equipment malfunctions, false positive lab results, patient falls, TMJ, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, and orthodontics.
Mr. Canaan frequently lectures on recent legislative actions, case law developments, and risk management strategies to avoid civil litigation.
